We are excited to introduce you to our newest associate, Katie St. John. Katie is a life-long St. Louisan who graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University, where she majored in History, with minors in Spanish and Pre-law. While in college, she participated in a study abroad program in Cordoba, Argentina. Katie notes that while in Argentina she “lived with a ‘host mom’ for the entire time and she knew no English. It was very challenging at first, however, I picked up Spanish faster than I thought and still retain most of what I learned.” She traveled on the weekends in Argentina and visited some very unique spots. Her favorites were the Cerro de los Siete Colores (The Hills of Seven Colors) and Iguazú Falls.
At Eastern Illinois University she completed her undergrad thesis titled “The United States and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989-1995.” The thesis takes a historical look into the development of children’s rights in the United States and different legal impacts that occurred as a result. The thesis was the product of three years of research and writing while at EIU, and was published by the History Department. Katie graduated with Honors and spoke on different panels about her thesis and the research she completed.
She attended law school at St. Louis University School of Law, where she took on several additional major research projects, including writings on the death penalty for mentally ill offenders, and the CIA’s enhanced interrogation techniques. In law school, she participated in moot court, took trial advocacy, and served as a legal research and writing teaching assistant. She graduated with concentrations in international and comparative law.
Before joining our firm, she worked for two local law firms as a legal intern, most recently at the Simon Law Firm, a local, prestigious and well-respected firm who does an excellent job of exposing law students to the ins and outs of civil litigation and leaves them well prepared as they pursue their careers here in St. Louis.
Katie played soccer throughout her childhood and into high school, and still enjoys coaching her niece’s soccer team and playing herself from time to time. She spends a lot of time with all her nieces and nephews. She enjoys DIY house projects and watching true crime shows.
We are so happy to have Katie with us, and look forward to her continued development as a lawyer with our firm!
