On the heels of celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day and as we enter the month of February, our firm reflects on the significance of Black History Month and the inspiring legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. These observances are not only an opportunity to celebrate the rich history and achievements of the African American community but also a time to reaffirm our commitment to justice, equality, diversity, inclusion and civil rights in American society.
Black History Month serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and understanding the historical and cultural contributions of African Americans. It is a time to reflect on the struggles and hardships that African Americans have faced and continue to face. Black History Month is also a reminder that the fight for equality and justice is ongoing and that we must continue to work towards a more just and equitable society.
Dr. King’s tireless efforts in the pursuit of justice and equality continue to inspire us. As legal professionals, we are reminded of our duty to champion the rights of all individuals, irrespective of their background or ethnicity. At Gausnell, O’Keefe & Thomas, we strive to make diversity and inclusion a key component of the founding and enduring principles of the firm. Through our Diversity & Inclusion Committee, we are committed to fostering, maintaining, and celebrating an environment where creative solutions, distinct voices, and new ideas are welcomed. By staying informed, advocating for change, and fostering inclusivity within our legal practice, we contribute to the broader shared effort to create a more just and equal world and we honor the legacy of those who paved the way for a more unbiased and inclusive society.
This February, the firm will sponsor and attend one of the local bar’s best events recognizing the contributions of African American Lawyers in the region, the Lawyers Association of St. Louis’ Annual Theodore McMillian Black History Month Dinner, where our local City Prosecutor, Mr. Gabe Gore, will be the featured speaker.
