Seth is one of Gausnell, O’Keefe & Thomas’s founding principals and has 35 years of experience as a trial lawyer. In total, he has tried more than 100 cases to verdict. He received a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1983 and received his J.D. in 1985 from Saint Louis University Law School. Seth was admitted to the Bar in Missouri in 1986; the Bar in Kansas in 1987; and the Bar in Illinois in 1988. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court in the Eastern District of Missouri, Western District of Missouri, and the Southern District of Illinois, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
His Martindale-Hubbell rating is AV. Seth is a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, The Missouri Bar, Illinois State Bar Association, Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, The Lawyers Association of St. Louis and Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers. Seth participated in the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers Trial Academy in 1993 and the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Trial Academy in Boulder, Colorado in 1994 and has lectured at seminars on transportation liability, premises liability and broker/agent liability.
In the last five years, much of Seth’s practice has been devoted to working on claims not yet in suit trying to resolve them before suit is filed. Seth has been involved in mediations as an attorney in several hundred cases and even was involved in a mediation as a party. These types of experiences go hand in hand with training to be an effective mediator.
Seth has also tried his fair share of cases in his 35 years of practice, so he knows the risk and reward associated with trials. Most of us would agree that if at all possible, settling a case is a much more effective way in resolving a dispute. Although you would think getting cases settled would be easy, sometimes we all could use some help getting all the parties together in one place and seeing the opponent’s point of view.
Seth is available to mediate by zoom or in person either at Lexitas or the Gausnell, O’Keefe & Thomas office.
